The main aim of this study is to develop a new detection system for selected bacteria and viruses, as well as their proteins and antibodies against them. The detection system is focused on the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) where pathogen/protein/antibody attached to the LSPR sensors (containing metal nanoparticles) changes the optical and electrical characteristics. As a result, the absorption of light is changed. The student´s tasks in this project are followed: (i) the immobilization of antibodies into the LSPR system with the attachment of pathogens towards them (Figure 1A); (ii) the immobilization of pathogen´s proteins into the LSPR system with the attachment of antibodies towards them (Figure 1B). The detection is performed using changes in the absorbance, in other words, the absorbance peak of the nanocomposite will be changed. These new rapid detection systems can help with the diagnostic of pathogens. The last aim of this work is to determine the sensitivity of systems.
