Internship in Thin Film Preparation of Functional Materials for Gas Sensing Applications.

Join the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the group of Gas Sensors and Functional Nanomaterials.

Ready to turn cutting-edge chemistry into real-world solutions?

Gas pollutants like ozone and nitrogen oxides are silent threats to our planet and our health, but current detection technology is struggling to keep up. We’re on a mission to bridge that gap—and we need your help!

As an intern, you’ll dive into the world of nanotechnology, working with unique Ni(II) coordination complexes to develop a new generation of “smart” thin-film sensors. You won’t just be reading about innovation; you’ll be building it. From detecting CO2 to tracking volatile organic compounds, your work will contribute to sensors that are faster, tougher, and more energy-efficient. If you’re a curious mind ready to help us create new tech for a safer environment, we’d love to have you on the team.

Let’s build the future of sensing, one molecule at a time.

What will the internship involve?
  • Material Preparation: Participate in the synthesis and preparation of novel Ni(II) coordination complexes.
  • Thin Film Deposition: Assist in the fabrication of thin-film structures using specialized nanotechnology techniques.
  • Sensing Measurements: Conduct experimental testing of sensor responses to various hazardous gases (NOx, O₃, CO₂, etc.).
  • Data Analysis: Record and evaluate chemiresistive properties, focusing on sensitivity, detection limits, selectivity, and recovery times.
  • Optimization: Contribute to “tailoring” the material structure and composition based on experimental results to improve sensor durability and power consumption.
What we’re looking for:
  • Field of Study: Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Level of Study: Bachelor’s or Master’s student.
  • Technical Skills: Basic laboratory experience is required; familiarity with thin-film deposition or material characterization is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Analytical thinking, precision in experimental work, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Language: Ability to work with scientific literature in English..
What we offer:
  • Flexible working hours
  • A peek into the world of science, international events, projects, and academic life
  • Hands-on experience with real projects alongside top experts
  • Building connections for future career opportunities
  • Professional mentoring: Guidance from experienced researchers in the field
  • Access to modern equipment and a safe, supportive environment
  • Impactful Research: Contribute to a project with real-world applications in environmental protection and public health.
