Intern for 4D STEM data analysis

This internship offers students the opportunity to engage in modern materials research using the 4D STEM (4D scanning transmission electron microscopy) method. This method allows the diffraction pattern to be recorded at each image point, which can then be analyzed to obtain information about phase composition, crystal orientation, or local deformations. During the internship, students will learn how to collect and process data from 4D STEM and how to evaluate it using Python scripts. The goal will be to optimize input data sets and streamline the process of evaluating local deformations.

What will the internship involve?

  • Familiarization with the principle and data output of 4D STEM
  • Analysis of diffraction patterns using Python
  • Mapping of local deformations in the material based on diffraction data
  • Working with real data obtained in a transmission electron microscope
  • Optimization of input data and processing parameters

What we need:

  • Interest in materials physics and working with microscopic data
  • Basics of programming in Python
  • Willingness to learn new analytical methods
  • Independence, thoroughness, and ability to think logically

What we offer:

  • Opportunity to work with advanced microscopic techniques
  • Experience with real research data and its processing
  • Flexible working hours and adaptation to your study schedule
  • Guidance from experienced researchers from the high-cycle fatigue group
